My Story

Arizona Roots

Having grown up in the valley I have always taken pride in my home state of Arizona.   My family’s roots reach back four generations to the 1930’s when my great grandparents traveled from Michigan choosing Arizona to call home. My grandfather served as a U.S. Marine stationed in Yuma in the 1940’s and later moved with my grandmother to Prescott and Phoenix. Today, my parents, twin sister, niece and much of my extended family are glad to call Arizona home.

In the early 1980’s I attended Four Peaks Elementary School in Fountain Hills, then went to Coronado High School in Scottsdale, and finally attended Arizona State University in Tempe. I was the first in my family to go to college and after graduating, I moved to Washington. D.C. to pursue a career in government and politics and went on to get my masters degree in public policy. I wanted to make a difference.

My Journey

When I left home to move to D.C. in 1998, I packed up my jeep wrangler and bought a box of Cheerios for the road. I had no job to go to, no place to stay, no friends or family where I was headed, and very little money. After a few weeks, I had a job and a place to stay. With hard work and determination, everything else soon followed.

For 13 years I gravitated towards jobs that had a public policy focus. I wanted to work on things that helped improve people’s lives. I have worked on political campaigns, for political parties, law firms, and for two city governments and the U.S. Department of State.

In 2003, I met my incredible husband, Monte and we have been married for 17 years. Over the years, we have bounced back and forth between D.C. and Arizona, in large part to be close to our families – his in D.C., mine in Arizona.

Living in our nation’s capital on September 11, 2001, when the plane crashed into the Pentagon, and more recently during COVID, I had a front row seat to the political process during some of our nation’s most challenging times. These distinct experiences have only deepened my commitment to help this country thrive. The more recent events of January 6, 2021, however, made me realize there are huge disconnects between people and our government. This recognition has only deepened my passion to ensure that our country remains united and that we elect leaders who value the principals on which our country was founded. We must work together to create a bright future for all Arizonans and in Legislative District 5 we should elect leaders who understand the issues that impact our community.

A New Chapter

I am an everyday average person who has spent my career and education focused on working for my community and my country. Over the course of 25 years, my experience working with and navigating government and political institutions has equipped me with the background and skills to serve Arizonans in the State Legislature.

I am running for office because I believe we need more people in the legislature who know how to be effective, and who understand how to work across issues and party lines to improve the lives of all Arizonans.  True to my Arizona roots, I am a work horse, not a one trick show pony. I am someone who will work hard to get things done across areas.
